WELCOME TO THE GIVING LAND

GIFI exists to inspire and promote GIVING LIFESTYLE to everyone, in return of creating great givers through education empowerment.

#Today Tanzania Tomorrow for everyone.

Why with Us?

about us

GIVING IS FUN INITIATIVE GIFI is a startup independent, non-religious, non-governmental social welfare initiative, 100% committed to improving less privileged school children’s lifestyle by creating giving platforms which gives back to education and inspiring GIVING lifestyle to everyone at home and away from home (Africa - Away from Africa)

what

We are the art of Giving in a Fun way, we bring 'GIVING' into the image of creativity, we engage in activities which connect HAVES and HAVE NOTS in a fun way. We plan and host GIVING PROJECTS to collect funds to provide school uniforms and accessories to school children we stand for every year.

Why

From 2013-2017 Tanzania has shown a lot of improvements on education. It has made strides in educating parents to send children to pre-schools and primary schools, although most schools are poorly served, and child care and socialization remain to be a big challenge mostly to those in rural areas.

The government has successfully run so many campaigns to support education, including education for free to primary schools, as well as school desks campaigns (Madawati campaign) in every region in Tanzania.

Even though primary education is provided free to everyone, student’s access to the free education remains the parent’s responsibility. Which we agree that every parent should be responsible for their children’s growth. According to our rural areas daily lifestyle, not every parent understands the impotence of education, because majority of our parents in villages never attend schools, therefor students do not get that enough motivation from home.

story

How GIFI was found

GIVING Is FUN INITIATIVE (GIFI) was found by Blessing Mlanga an International student from Tanzania while studying in Malaysia in 2015. She started GIFI with the aim to help underprivileged school children in Malaysia and Tanzania. Inspired by Blake Mycoskie and his One for One initiative TOMS in Malaysia.

Blessing always loved GIVING and sometimes her friends laughed at her on how she could work tirelessly with no pay to support a friend so easily, those who got a chance to be close to her knows her better. She did couple of volunteer works and run fundraising events with different NGOs while at school to help school children in need in different countries she got the opportunity to visit and study in.

As she worked with different NGOs she met different school children who need help. She wished to do more to them but she didn’t have enough money as she was just a student depending on her monthly support from her family. As lucky as she was to travel and study in different countries she came up with an idea that can help to grow her passion in GIVING.

She loved fashion and style herself, through fashion she saw the beauty of colors and the functionality of African print cloth as well as the hard work carried out by the single mothers in Tanzania to support their children to go to school. Witnessing the struggle of these underprivileged children and their will to study leads Blessing to think of an initiative with the aim to promote the beauty of FUN and GIVING while raising fund support and improve lives of those in need.

She started by selling T-shirts and African print outfits made by single women in her home-country, to help them to support their children at school. For every piece which she sold she were able to source funding to provide less privileged children with school uniforms and school kits, both in her home-country and in the country and Malaysia where she was studying.

Blessing’s motivation to give back and her dream of founding a social enterprise came from her own life story. Blessing grew up as an underprivileged child in Tanzania. She walked to school barefoot, without a school uniform for most of her childhood. Yet she was eventually faced with the opportunity to travel abroad and to study in different countries provided by her German family. (Guardians)

story

Blessing now applies her International student life experiences to connect locals and Internationals from different countries around the world every year, to remember and celebrate their school journeys and gather their voices to support less privileged school children, who are currently going through what she went through as a child, with the hopes that they may be given the same opportunities to see the importance of education, and enjoy their school life like others.

BEHIND HER GIVING MOTIVATION STORY

story

The story behind the name GIVING In FUN INITIATIVE (GIFI) is a life story of a very strong women called MANJERI. Manjeri, was an African woman who grew up in Uganda, East Africa, who loved giving and used it as her strength to move forward whenever she was in pain. Manjeri managed to travel and live abroad to experience life outside her home country. Following her adventurous life abroad with ups and down she finally returned to Uganda, now a single mother of 3 children with nothing but two pieces of African print cloths in her suitcase to start her new life.

Manjeri managed to travel and live abroad to experience life outside her home country. Following her adventurous life abroad with ups and down she finally returned to Uganda, now a single mother of 3 children with nothing but two pieces of African print cloths in her suitcase to start her new life.

Poor as she may have been, Manjeri never stopped giving and sharing whatever she had with those who were less fortunate than her.

Due to the many struggles she faced in her daily life Manjeri passed away too early leaving behind her three children – among them Blessing Mlanga. (our GIFI founder)

These three children have been gifted with different life paths whereby they have combined their life experiences and gifts together to inspire and help those who are experiencing the same life as they in the past.

And so together they are the force and the souls behind GIFI’ initiative, wishing to share with you that GIVING IS FUN and is a beautiful thing to do for one another when gather and celebrate life together without looking of who we are, where we come from, our colors or cultures, life status or money definitions.

Quality Education In Rural Areas

•Poor access to free education

•Lack of proper parental and society motivation to support school children when starting primary school in rural areas

•Big gap between urban and rural students appearance at school

•Luck of educational inner motivation to a school child

What we think as a solution

Of course our country is growing day after day, We have so many community initiatives and individuals who are voluntarily working so hard to contribute to improving our education, and we think GIFI can be one of the initiatives which contribute to improving our primary school children’ lifestyle in villages.

•We think Our Government, society, communities, should give more hand on motivation and empowerment to both school children and their parents in rural areas. Parents should be well briefed, motivated through workshops and seminars to be involved in their children’s homework and school activities.

•Our contribution recommends that our government and society in collaboration with Ministry of Education should motivate parents more so that they would be open-minded toward education. This would help the parents to know the academic needs of their schooling children.

•Parents should be actively involved in academic matters irrespective of their financial status to support some of the school requirements to the children such as proper school uniforms and accessories at school.

•Students need proper motivation and guidance from the society and parents, for them to have a courage to attend school properly till they finish at least standard 7 when they are able at least to read and write. They need to see more of our own successful people motivating them. Successful education stories should be shared more in schools.

•Motivation of teachers is also critical as well as ensuring that facilities are satisfactory for the teachers and students at school. Parents should respect and be friends with teachers, so that together they can help their children closely.

Our action as GIFI

We are using a school uniform as a tool to communicate and address education issues which occur in early learning stage, especially in rural areas. Due to the rural areas lifestyle some parents are unable to prepare school children when going to school, to assist them with homework, to check if their children are ready for the next day class etc.

We think before school children know the meaning of education, they should be excited to go and stay in school first. This introduction motivation to student can only be provided by a parent and the society.

At GIFI we believe that, when a school child goes to school with a full stomach, dressed up neatly in a full school uniform package, a school child tends to behave seriously, smart and feels happy, knowing he/she is safe, at a right place. A proper school uniform can give a school child the confidence to wanting to go and staying in school. And once they stay in school things will never be the same, they will learn something.

We believe that the inner motivation of a school child is the best thing a parent and the society can plant into a child’s ability to learn before a teacher opens a class room door for a school child to sit and learn.

It is our call to everyone in one to stand with us, by supporting these little education enthusiasts with school uniforms and school accessories to motivate them to go to school and stay in school.

Much thanks to you GIFI, for giving me this chance to share my school uniform story on your board, it is such a honor. Please allow me to begin this way.

I don’t know whether I was pitiful or not, All I knew was that, I was upbeat to go to class. I wore my mom’s pullover at school as my school shirt. My mom needed to get my first school skirt from our neighbor. So I started my first school with an oversized school uniform.

Then one day I had a little battle with my friends, (kids fight) and my friend bothered on me revealing to me I didn’t have an appropriate school uniform the first day I went to school. She even insulted me over her school skirt. I didn’t feel great by any means, I felt imbalanced before my friends.

Fortunately my mom was listening our kids fight, so she called me ” Rebeca, Rebeca, come here’ I went home irate and crying, then my mom realized what was going on. She asked “for what good reason are you fighting for?’ I answered advising her, that my friend was offending me, that I didn’t have a school uniform she acquired me hers. At that point my mom needed to quiet me down, instructing me to excuse her.

Obviously I excused her however inside my heart I wasn’t feeling OK, her school skirt was even old yet she offended me before my friends. At that point my mom bought me another one and I was happy.

My student life didn’t wind up there, because of my less favored family, my dad was retired, and we didn’t have enough money to go to good schools hence I proceeded with my studies in a very local government school. Our school didn’t have enough classes, neither good desks, but I had to accept the situation as I knew even if I wanted to shift a school, my parents wouldn’t afford. So I had to accept the situation I had.

I studied very hard, sometimes I had to run away from home and stay at school studying till late. I did as such well on my final exams. However my school is one among of good schools around the city now. It has more buildings now, and I am so proud to graduate from such a beautiful school.

So I would like to advice my fellow young students, who are as yet proceeding with their studies, don’t let life challenges control you, dream high as you can, take whatever it takes to get where you need to be. Try not to surrender, on the off chance that you do. Lower yourself before God, and he will lift you higher, more than you expect, have confidence in all that you do.

I am a father, guardian, husband to Maria, a businessman, retired teacher and a friend to many. Well, I was born in 1936, so I am 80 years old. My school life story starts in September 1942, before I became 6 in October of that year. I was lucky, I never went alone to school, and my twin brother was always with me. We attended the same class; we dressed the same, if possible.

But it was a long way to school, about 4 km, and we had to walk. Sometimes our older sister took us on the carrier of her old bicycle, one behind the other. It was a difficult time in Germany.

The Germans had made a bad mistake to choose Hitler as president. He was a brutal racist and wanted to rule the whole world. He had started World War Two, a stupid thing. We sometimes had to sing songs glorifying his ideas, especially during our sports lessons.

As children we saw fighter planes in the air, planes were shot down, planes attacked everything that moved on the ground. After that terrible war there was no school for 9 months. We were lucky, our teacher came to us once a week to teach us and the children of our neighbors.

aertker

When there were lessons again at school we had a teacher who gave special lessons to those children who intended to go to a secondary school or high school. We were really lucky.

I hope my short school story inspires someone or reminds some one of my age about those times at school.
